In 2013 House of Uniforms purchased an old, run-down factory. Renovations began immediately and four months later the business officially moved into its new premises.
The move from a small retail space of 90m2 to a considerably larger factory of over 400m2 gave the business the opportunity expand its production capabilities and also bring many processes, that were previously outsourced, in-house.
With an indepedent mindset, House of Uniforms didn’t like relying on others to complete its work, but sometimes due to space or money it was a necessary evil.
The move to a larger space enabled House of Uniforms to bring in-house everything that was previously outsourcing as well as expand its product and service offering.
“In our old building we were limited to running our one 8-head embroidery machine and a small heat press. Everything else we offered, such as screen printing, transfer printing, and custom sewing was out-sourced to other companies,” said Andrew Scott, Marketing Manager, House of Uniforms.
“We first went to GJS Machinery as it was one of the few companies that sold manual screen printing equipment. Thanks to GJS’ comprehensive range we took the opportunity to purchase all the items we needed for the dye sublimation of fabrics and products, thermal transfers and doming,” Scott added.
GJS assisted House of Uniforms by providing advice in the planning stage for the set up of the production facilities and has continued to support the House of Uniforms team with after sales support and service.
Screen printing, thermal transfers, a second embroidery machinery and sewing equipment have all strongly contributed to an expansion in House of Uniforms’ business and increased profitability.
Now, with control over workflow, the House of Uniforms sales staff has a greater understanding of what is involved which allows them to more confidently discuss and promote the different options available to customers.
House of Uniforms has also recently launched a range of promotional products under the label ‘Brand Me Now’ that is produced on-site in its new warehouse facility.
This new customer ‘value-add’ essentially means that House of Uniforms can do very small runs such as 12 mugs, one name badge or 10 mouse mats - quantities that are not offered in the wider industry as they are too small to be worthwhile for other specialist companies.
“Our product offerings are primarily sourced through GJS’ extensive range of printable blanks. We have found the quality, availability and quick delivery times to be very reliable,” Scott concluded.
