Tasmanian business Uniform City, in conjunction with David O’Byrne, Minister for Economic Development and Infrastructure, and Carol Brown, Senator for Tasmania, today celebrated the opening of the State’s first custom garment decoration plant in Hobart.

The new equipment, supplied by GJS Machinery, will allow short print runs and custom design garment decoration work usually sent to mainland Australia or China to be produced locally, competing on costs and securing local jobs.

Uniform City’s new equipment has been acquired with the support of the Federal Government through the AusIndustryTextile, Clothing and Footwear Small Business Grant Program and direct investment from Uniform City.

In addition to the opening of the new custom garment decoration plant, Uniform City today also unveiled an innovative, and first of its kind, online self-service portal designed especially for school students to custom design clothing for graduations and events. The portal, UC Leavers, allows students to design their own custom leavers top or graduation jersey in three easy steps with the ability to share and collaborate on the design through social networking platforms.
